Why century-old transformers are the bottleneck crushing modern data centers
“Kirsten, what is a solid state transformer?”
Kirsten, what is a solid state transformer? Actually, like, what is a transformer? No. Just kidding. I'm not. So what is it?
Okay. So transformer transforms or converts voltage and manages power flow. And these are very important for data centers. And right now, most use very old technology, Basically, an old iron core transformer, which they have existed basically for a century. And so the reason why we're talking about this today is because there's a company called Heron Power, and there's actually a couple of other companies out there that are trying to modernize this, and they have created or developed a solid state transformer.
About this clip
Kirsten explains the basics of transformers and why data centers still rely on century-old iron core technology. She introduces Heron Power and other companies developing solid state transformers to modernize this critical infrastructure component.
Why this clip
